The Return of the Sunny Coast Sleeper
We know. You’ve been waiting for this day. So have we! Cue the celebrations for what is one of the BIG wins for the Sunny Coast in 2025.
The Sunny Coast Sleeper, formerly known as SleepBus, is BACK and bringing safe, comfy sleeps to those roughing it on our streets. After a hiatus since January this year, Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre has acquired ownership of the bus, ensuring its return to our community.
But, maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves. If you don’t know about the Sunny Coast Sleeper, what is it? Here we go…
The Bus is a lifeline and expression of care for those who are sleeping rough, in parks, on sidewalks, in cars, and need a night of relief and rest. It is currently stationed on the corner of Third Ave and Aerodrome Road, and staffed by a smiling bunch of volunteers. They welcome men, women, and children, to sleep in one of nine private sleep pods. The Bus operates weekly on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.
CEO Mark recently noted that a question was asked about how we can get more people to use The Sunny Coast Sleeper - the simple answer is consistency. Consistency is the key to helping rebuild trust and connection within our community. If you know someone or see someone sleeping rough who may benefit from relief and connection, please share the details below.
